History
The island was the second place that the experiments lived, after the lab in Washington DC. It was supposed to be a large reserve that the experiments couldn't escape from, where the scientists could keep an eye on them but not have to keep them behind bars. Of course, eventually the experiments did escape and moved to New York.
Only a handful of the experiments that went to the island still run with the main rebel group at present. A lot of the experiments who went to the island have disappeared or died and a lot of the new experiments that make up most of the group never went to the island. But for some, the island was a significant turning point in their lives, this is where the main group started, where some of the longest and strongest relationships started, whether they be ones of friendship, love or hatred.
It’s been about a year and a half to two years since the experiments were at the island and since then it’s gone through a number of changes. Once the experiments left, the island was converted into an alpha training ground. The alphas cleared up the mess that the experiments left and built new buildings.
Then the experiments moved to L.A. and things started to get out of hand. That’s when the Alphas were kicked out of the island so that the scientists could work on getting it up to scratch for the experiments. It all took longer then expected, and of course, they had to wait for a change of head before they could get the experiments to the island, but eventually everything was in place. The experiments could no longer run wild through the streets of L.A., they were going to come back under the USASI’s control, somewhere that they couldn’t escape from.
The Laboratory
Welcome to 21st century USASI. Say goodbye to those old, metal barred cages, those easily picked padlocks. They’re gone, to be replaced by the latest technology.
The main lab itself is located on the east side of the island. It’s a fairly large, three story building, with a basement.
Cages
The cage rooms are all pretty much identical.
The cage rooms are made up of eight cages, four cages on either side of the room with a corridor running through the middle. The space of two cages, one either side, is open at one end of the room, where desks and filing cabinets have been placed. To get into the cage room you must pass through two sets of doors. To enter each door you need to provide a security card, password and finger print scan. This is extra protection encase an experiment escapes. The first door won’t open if the second door is open and vies-versa. By the side of each door is a glass panel, made up of the same glass as the cages. This can be opened with a security card, password and finger print scan, the panel is just big enough to fit in the barrel of a gun, so that the scientists don’t need to enter the room to trank an escaped experiment.
The cages themselves are very different from the ones at the old labs. One side is made up of the wall of the lab, covered in white tiles, solid and unbreakable. The other three sides are made up of glass. But not just any glass, this is the strongest sort of glass around, bullet proof and claw proof. They can’t be shattered, even if a bulldozer crashed into them. There are no locks to be picked, the cages are opened with a security card, finger print scan and a password that’s unique to each cage and changed regularly. (Scared yet? But you haven’t even heard the best bit.) At the top of each cage is a set of small holes, needle point in size. Gas can be produced through these holes and loft into the cage in question. This is a much easier way to sedate experiments then a tranquilliser gun. There’s no way to avoid it, half of the time experiments don’t even realise they’re being gassed, it’s a very hard smell to detect unless you’ve smelt it before.
Basement
The basement is a very large, underground car park. There are guards there around the clock. There are both cars and boats parked there, as well as motorbikes, mobile ambulances, etc. There is a slope that goes up to ground level on the west side of the lab, this is constantly being manned by heavily armed guards.
Ground Level
The ground floor is made up of research labs. This is where the DNA is created and improved upon. The labs are state of the art, with everything a scientist could dream of. But it’s no longer just DNA that’s being created, animals, normal animals, are locked in cages within these walls. They’re being tested on, their intelligence raised and aggression amplified. Then, they are realised back into the island, with one purpose, to kill the rebels. They’ve had a chip installed into their brain to make them seek out and destroy the experiments, just to see how much the experiments can handle.
There are also some back-up cages on the ground floor, these are holding cages where the experiments are kept before they are moved to the proper cages on the second floor. There are two cage rooms , both of them are made up of four cages, as experiments are normally moved to the third floor as soon as they come in. These cages are also used as quarantine and isolation cages.
First Floor
The first floor is the scientist and guards rooms, staff rooms and general chill out rooms, as well as offices and the staff’s personal gym, complete with swimming pool.
Second Floor
Three stories up we have the experiments floor. There are a number of cage rooms in this floor, as well as work out rooms, injection rooms, etc. This floor is at the very top so that it takes experiments longer to escape, if they ever manage to escape, that is. They’re either going to jump out a window, and at the very least break their ankles when they land, or have to go down the randomly laid out stairs to get to the ground floor. The lifts have to have a security card, finger print scan and password to work. For those that have wings, it’s not much easier to get out of the lab by jumping out a window. To get the momentum of flight, they will have to fall at least two of the three stories and then when they start to fly, they will more then likely crash smack bang into the middle of the electric fence surrounding the laboratory.
