Out Of Control
Maybe I shouldn’t be telling you this. Maybe I should have just stayed quiet. The lord knows I don’t want to but maybe it’s for the best... I’m just kidding ya, I’m gonna tell you the story of how I got messed up in my crazy little world. This is my story, my way, my time, but not my point of view.
Prologue: Ancient times, desperate measures
“What are you talking about?” “Why would they show up now?” “What are they?” The murmuring echoed around the table as the boy slept in the cage. His sleeping form was draped in only a cloak, one thing seeming out of place. The expensive looking bracelet on his wrist. It was a simple piece of elastic with beads and wooden pieces surrounding it, but there was a golden charm on it, one in the shape of a wing. The scientist mutterings continued. The boy stirred and rolled over, the bracelets charm moving into his palm.
“Boy, wake up,” The voice was demanding inside the child’s head, his eyes flicking open. He yawned and stretched, looking around inside his cage and pulling the cloak further around his body. ‘Say my name. Call out Garuda’ The voice continued to talk in his head. The boy blinked a few times before nodding, the scientist’s expressions changing when he seemed to be answering something. They then took a step back as he opened his mouth.
“Blow them away, Garuda,” The boy’s voice was barely more than a whisper as the charm turned into something that resembled a scimitar and he lashed out at the bars, cutting cleanly through the metal. The scientists instantly scattered, although there was still one person, sat in the computer chair, typing up the only thing the people in the future would need to know. ‘Today we discovered the third. He called out Garuda, yet another god from ancient times, leaving us bewildered as to why such people would be chosen for these gifts, these weapons of the ancients. Although, they still seem to be unable to unleash the true potential. This child is the third, whose name we still do not yet know, but we shall name him ‘Gale’. The previous subjects able to control them are ‘Enigma’ and ‘Aurora’. We have feared how powerful these three will become, but the people of the clinic will always stand against anything that threatens the safety of the people. My time left is short; he has finally noticed my remaining presence. The gods are still alive, in these weapons, within these people. We have several more reports of people, if Gale, Enigma and Aurora get control of here, we are all doomed. This is my final report’ Was all that is left of the original clinic. Our story starts years after this.
Chapter 1: The clinic...Thing
The plain white walls seemed to stretch forever in front of him. The scent of chemicals seemed to overpower his sense of smell as he ran, feet slamming on the cold tiles beneath them, forcing him to run faster to get away from the cold. His cloak flared behind him as he turned a corner, coming face to face with one of the many people he had been trying to get away from.
“Dogma, you know you shouldn’t try and escape from us, you’ll just get hurt,” The person in front of him’s voice was as cold and bitter as ever as he moved forward. In his hand was the weapon of the people of The Clinics, the Ancients. Well, really the weapons were the Ancients but they called themselves Ancients as well, just to make themselves sound superior to people not chosen by the lords. The Ancient’s weapons are the small bracelets with a single item attached to it. In the shadowy figure’s case it was a fang in the shape of an Egyptian ankh “Rage, Anubis!” His voice roared out as he gripped the small ankh, energy seeming to crack the air around him as his hand glowed. A roar echoed through the corridor as he lunged forward. The necklace had turned into his weapon, the spear of Anubis.
“Enigma, how dare you try and stop me! ERUPT, KIRIN!” The man addressed at Dogma yelled, a similar reaction appearing in his hand, but instead of a spear appeared a pair of tonfa. Circling up the almost bat like part were rings of what seemed like painted on flames, but as he blocked Enigma’s spear, sparks flew out from these and they burst into flame, shocking the male in front of him. He knocked the other male off his feet with a swift kick to the chest and then quickly jumped over him, grinning to himself. The shocked expression on his elder’s face had been priceless. The last time he and Enigma had spared, Dogma had not learned his Ancients name.
The warm air flowed around the figure as he took his first breath of fresh air in what felt like years. His body felt like he was so on fire, quickly hopping the fence that surrounded the clinic, the place where he was meant to train, where he was meant to be safe from the dangers of the outside world and of the people who hated him because he had been chosen by an Ancient. Dogma began to run, wanting to get as far from this place as he could. He began to feel the air around him crackle, something seeming wrong.
“Who’s there?” Dogma called his body swinging round just in time to see a woman seem to disappear and himself still in the clinic. His strength seemed to disappear as he crashed to his knees, hands grasping his head. “WHY!? WHY CAN’T I GET AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!?” His cry echoed along the corridors, no one turning to look at the source of the noise. This had been his third escape in a week and still he could not escape from the Clinic. He felt the re assuring hand on his shoulder, turning to look toward the person, seeing her. The one who held his heart in her hand and she had no idea. Oh well, love really wasn’t meant for him. “Mirage...She did it again, didn’t she Julia?” His voice seemed to have given up, which is exactly what had happened. Even after knowing his spirit’s name, he was still out of synch with it. Out of control of it.
“Calm down Dogma, yeah, she did it again but that's what she does,” The woman's voice was soft, matching the fair brown hair that rested around her shoulders. She turned and seemed to disappear just as quickly as she arrived, being merely a fleeting shadow to most because of her Ancient partner the shadow phoenix. Dogma stood and finally pulled back the hood that had covered his face from view, revealing a scarred face, short black hair in a spiked fashion. His face seemed to scream hatred as he glared around at anyone that passed him, heading back toward his room. That woman Mirage always seemed to know when he was going to try and get out of here. It was creepy. ‘Well it’s hardly surprising when she has the Kitsune with her’ Dogma turned around, not seeing anyone. “Where are you, coward!?” He called, preparing to unleash Kirin. ‘I’m the one you were planning on using as a weapon’ Dogma’s expression faltered. Since when could the ancient’s communicate with there hosts? ‘Things are changing, this place in no longer a safe haven for us. We are all at risk’ Well, that was just brilliant.
Chapter 2: Heaven or hell? Who gives a damn when you die?
Dogma couldn’t believe what he had just heard. Not only where the ancients still alive, but they were even stronger than people seemed to realize. But that didn’t exactly mean that it would be any kind of easy task to unleash this power. He began to pace along the corridor toward his room. So what he had just been told meant that he had to get out of this place to help save the world from a new threat. That was just brilliant, going by how the hundreds of other escapes he had planned went. He removed the cloak that always seemed to surround his body and entered his room, dropping the cloak onto his bed and searching around for his notepad. He needed to write this stuff down before he forgot exactly where Kirin had said his soul rested. If he didn’t get there in time, who knew what these Shadows would be able to do to the ancients. Going by what he had heard from Kirin, they had the ability to enter an Ancients host and take over the Ancient by that. This was scary considering the stronger your ancient’s power the more likely you were to be stalked by one of the shadows. And going by what he had heard, if your Ancient was a god they tended to be pretty powerful.
‘What are you doing Dogma? We have to get going. Now’ The voice echoed inside his head as he sighed and pulled the rucksack over his back after draping his cloak around his shoulders. Goodbye hell, hello heaven.
“So, if we encounter an enemy, I let you out, but attack the surrounding walls, right?” ‘Yep’ Dogma gave a sigh before starting to run along the corridor. He wasn’t going to stop. He wasn’t going to be slowed down. He was getting out of here for real this time. “ERUPT, KIRIN!” He cried out as his tonfa’s appeared and he began to drag them along the wall’s, hearing an almost fox like howl and found himself running along the same corridor, but instead of seeming endless, the door was in front of him. ‘Just remember she’s gonna fight you if she has to’ Kirin’s voice took over his thoughts as Dogma’s legs pumped down the corridor and finally broke free from the hold of the clinic. ‘Keep running. Don't stop’ “Like I needed you to tell me,” Dogma said laughing as he sprinted forward, his tonfa’s still in hand. It was then he heard it, swift footsteps behind him. “Mirage, I’m warning you, don’t mess with me,” He called back, only to feel something fly right by his face.
“Like I’m going to let you pass me by,” Mirage called out before getting in front of Dogma and quickly turning. “Soar, Kitsune!” Her voice rang out and her bracelet quickly turned into a bow, and a quiver appearing on her left thigh. She quickly pulled an arrow out and let it fly toward Dogma. ‘Don’t let them hit, they have-‘Dogma didn’t let him finish, ducking his body down just in time to see her launch another three arrows. “ SH-Which one’s should I dodge?” ‘ALL OF THEM YOU IDIOT!’ Kirin’s voice screamed in his head, Dogma swinging his tonfa only to feel one of the arrows sink into his arm. A cry of pain was wrenched from his throat and he ripped it from his skin, but his hand caught the smallest tuft of fur on the end of the arrow. It was then the illusion struck him. The grass seemed to grow and he was completely surrounded in it. ‘This isn’t good, those arrows must be the actual weapon, not the bow’ Kirin’s voice echoed in his head. So what, he couldn’t let a single arrow hit him? Dogma began to run, hearing several arrows just miss him. Finally the illusion disappeared as he appeared in front of Mirage. Had she actually let him get this close? He pushed forward with his tonfa, slamming it into her bow, but instead slamming an arrow in mid flight, the true illusion finally breaking. Dogma grinned as he picked it up and carefully examined it. So it was the small tuft of Kitsune fur. So that was what created the illusion?
“You ready Mirage, I’m gonna be serious this time,” Dogma began to run forward, but at the same time used his weapons hidden power because of being a beast in disguise. Flames began to circle the weapon, at the same time causing smoke to surround him. Mirage’s face was one of pure shock as she shot multiple arrows into the drifting smoke, only to feel the metal of the tonfa smash into her back, knocking her to the floor. “Don’t try it again unless you wish to receive some burns,” He said simply before beginning to sprint, releasing his weapon. HE WAS FREE!
Chapter 3: Some things aren’t what they seem? DUH!
“I can’t even enjoy my freedom for five minutes can I? So, we have to get to where?” Dogma questioned as he walked along the street’s of his old town. He didn’t find it surprising that Kirin’s true body would be resting near where he found the bracelet. He sighed and looked up in front of him. He pulled his cloak further around him, feeling so out of place. Dogma was far too used to being away from people; instead today he was in the middle of crowds of people. ‘It’s the old mine just out of town, but were going to need some supplies’ Kirin’s voice spoke inside his head, almost seeming to crackle like flames as Dogma headed toward the nearest shop. He was going have to become a criminal all over again.
“NO WAY! Darren?” Dogma swung around as he heard this yell, not having used that name in years. His gaze faltered as he saw a familiar face. His old friend. One of the many who had shunned him after finding out about his ancient weapon. ‘You know them?’ Kirin’s crackling voice alerted him to the fact there were other’s behind, most of them holding scowls instead of smiles. Dogma gripped his bracelet and held it in front of him, his expression turning to a glare. “Here to try and beat me to a bloody pulp again? I don’t think so,” He growled, eyes shining with unseen fury. ‘Revenge isn’t the answ-‘“I don’t care,” Dogma growled “ERUPT, KIRIN!” His cry spread out like a wave of heat, as he lunged forward, feeling the tonfa appearing in his hand. “Darren wait I’m sorry!” His friend cried out as he felt the tonfa press against his throat, holding him against a wall.
“Is that true Zeke? Is it really true you’re sorry about forcing me away from my family, from my supposed friends after finding out I was different? Is that fair?” Dogma growled, staring Zeke directly in the eye as he put more pressure on with his tonfa, the other ready to inflict serious damage if the other’s tried anything. “YES! I’m so sorry. I saw you before you put your hood on. I wanted to apologize and show you something. This lot are here because they wanted to kill you this time. I tried to stop them with words...But I guess only these words will get through to them,” Zeke muttered under his breath after feeling the warm metal of Dogma’s tonfa removed from his throat. He took a few steps away from the wall before a smile appeared on his face. Not a normal smile, an almost twisted smile. “Drown them all, Leviathan!” Zeke’s hand shot out and his bracelet dropped from his hand, revealing what seemed to be a fish scale of gold as his emblem. Waves seemed to be crashing around them, the sound deafening even if there was no actual water. In his hand there was the familiar cracking sound, a single flash of pure white. Instead of the bracelet there was a sword. However, there was hardly a blade, instead it looked like a handle with a twig attached.
“Ha, you call that a sword?” “He’s an Ancient as well” “GET THEM!” The crowd called out taunts and obvious comments. Dogma was surprised at how pathetic the Leviathan’s weapon seemed to be. ‘Don’t judge a weapon by its first appearance. Just wait’ Kirin’s voice seemed to breathe directly into his ear as he nodded and watched. “I’ll take care of this lot Darren, we can talk afterward,” Zeke said with a grin before running forward, he dodged anything the group was throwing at him and instead swung his sword at them. Some of the group laughed until they felt it. One man collapsed, coughing up water in what felt like an endless amount. Soon other’s joined him. Dogma’s eyes were wide, opening his mouth to ask how he did it before remembering Kirin’s words. ‘Told you so, his sword has the ability that anyone it sweeps past instantly begins to produce large amounts of water in there throat and mouth. Enough to drown them if he doesn’t stop it quickly enough. Although, I haven’t seen such killing intent in a long time’ Dogma grinned, dismissing his tonfa’s. “What do ya think Darren, pretty awesome, right?” Zeke turned and looked at Dogma, grinning like a school kid who’d just aced his test.
“First off the name’s Dogma now, not Darren. And that is awesome...But scary at the same time. When will they stop drowning?” Dogma asked, staring toward the sky. He could feel Kirin’s anger bubbling suddenly, glancing across to see Zeke slowly raising his blade. “Oh, they’ll be fine in an hour. You, on the other hand, aren’t going to survive it,” Zeke’s twisted smile returned “Shatter, Doppelganger”. Zeke’s body seemed to be melting away, changing shape. ‘That was Doppelganger! It’s a strange weapon; anyone it hits can become part of its memory. It’s a dangerous weapon if you get hit with it. It can also remember any weapon it fights against...Wait that would mean it went again Leviathan and won? Can that even be possible?’ Kirin’s voice was angry, but as he thought more and more about it, it seemed to be more and more obvious that this person was strong. Far stronger than Dogma knew. ‘Get out of here now’ The voice was serious. Dogma nodded and silently began to back away from the still changing form. As soon as he was around 20 foot away he turned and sprinted. He couldn’t risk it. If Kirin was telling him to run, god knew he was going to run.
Chapter 4: The last resting place of Kirin
“Doppelganger...Wasn’t it one of the first three, along with Garuda and Anubis? Enigma...I’m gonna have to go against him again, aren’t I?” Dogma was seemingly talking to himself as he moved with way through the dark mine shafts. What was going on, this place was so hot it was scary. ‘No, Doppelganger is stronger than the three put together. His power is limitless. Artemis was the third, but she has passed on along with Aurora going by what I heard. Attacked by people from your world...’ Kirin’s voice was full of sadness, but he continued none the less ‘And the reason it’s so hot is because there’s a freaking FIRE DEITY sleeping underneath us’. Dogma continued on his path forward and finally saw a flicker of light. “I know you said you didn’t make any booby traps or anything...But is that lava real or fake?” ‘Real...’ “Just checking”
